Hi everyone,

Summer is coming to a close, and we here at ESR are in transition. Like all educational institutions, we are welcoming a new cohort of students - both residential and Access - and gearing up for another year of classes, seminars and events.

This summer was a rich and productive one for us. We had the opportunity to visit Yearly Meetings all over the country and touch base with Friends from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. We were also able to host events here on the campus of Earlham School of Religion.

One event we were able to host this spring was the annual Willson Lectures. This year, our lecturer was Joerg Rieger. We invite you to enjoy the video series that we have produced from his lectures:

Young Adult Friends Gathering Video Series - Service Days

This video is the tenth in a series put together from footage and interviews taken during the 2010 Young Adult Friends Gathering in Wichita, Kansas. This gathering took place over the 2010 Memorial Day Weekend and was perhaps the most diverse and balanced YAF gathering in generations. Roughly equal numbers of Liberal-Unprogrammed, Pastoral and Evangelical Friends were in attendance, along with a small number of Conservative Friends.

This video features the service portion of the gathering, which took place after the weekend event. We spent our days doing landscaping for Mennonite Housing in Wichita. Our nights were spent playing games and getting to know each other better. While only about a dozen of us were able to stay for the service days, it was a blessed time that had its own special flavor.

Young Adult Friends Gathering Video Series–The Epistle

In January, I asked some of our Access students attending the January intensive courses to talk about their classes. The results were illuminating, as people talked about how their classes challenged them and open their eyes to new ways of looking at things.  The May intensive is coming up, May 16-27. For Access students or residential students who attend intensives, do you have any tips for taking intensive courses, travel, or comments on the videos?
